Mozzarella bread sticks:

This was such a hit.

Gooey, melting Mozzarella strips encased in a crispy, thin bread-like dough and served piping hot with your favourite pasta sauce. It's one of the best starters.

Here's how ????.

Ingredients :
Mozzarella
Dried origanum
Dough:
2 cups all purpose flour
2 tbl oil
1 egg
1/4 tsp salt
Milk to form a dough

Directions:
Dough:
Add salt to flour.
Rub oil into flour until it resembles breadcrumbs.
Mix egg into a little milk.
Add to the dry mix and continue adding milk a little at a time until a dough is formed.
Knead until the dough is soft and pliable.

Cut mozzarella into 1.5cm long strips.
Dust origanum all around the strips.

(slide 3 has a small demonstration on how to wrap the dough)
Roll out dough into a rectangle. Dough should be rolled thin (but not transparent) The width should be slightly bigger than the strips of mozzarella.
Add a strip to the edge of the dough. Wrap the dough around the mozzarella until fully covered. Seal well on all ends. No mozzarella should be exposed.
Continue this process until all the mozzarella is covered.
Freeze for a minimum of 24hours.

Frying:
Deep fry in sizzling hot oil. Sticks should be fried from frozen (straight from the freezer) for a very short while.
Toss all the time until golden brown all around. Mozarella may show signs of seeping. Remove from heat.
Just before serving, microwave for 15 seconds until mozzarella sizzles. Watch it while it microwaves. The sticks should feel soft when prodded, with the promise of melted cheese????. Serve immediately while piping hot with your favourite pasta sauce (marinara)
Reheat for approx 15sec again in the microwave if it turns cold.(watch it in the microwave)
Enjoy!

P. S.
1. In the picture, I used a different method to wrap the strips. I cut strips and wrapped them around from the one end to the other. Although prettier, it takes a lot of time and extra dough. It is also trickier to fry with a lot of sealed areas.
Use the method in the recipe.
2. Does not bake or airfry well.
